Hulkro continues to deliver expert installation of split DX refrigeration cooling systems, providing reliable and precise temperature control across a wide range of transport, commercial, and industrial environments. Each system is carefully designed and installed to suit the specific requirements of the space, ensuring efficient operation, consistent performance, and long-term reliability from day one.

All installations are carried out in full compliance with current gas and safety regulations, with a strong focus on energy efficiency and ease of maintenance. By using proven equipment and best-practice installation methods, Hulkro helps reduce running costs while ensuring safe, dependable operation. Split DX systems offer a flexible, low-maintenance solution, particularly well suited to environments where performance, efficiency, and compliance are critical.

Recent Project Highlights

Southwark Oversite Development
As part of the Southwark Oversite Development project, Hulkro supported the relocation of critical cooling control units to enable sterilisation works to external station areas, while maintaining essential services within an operational environment. The works were delivered within a complex, live setting, ensuring continuity of service throughout the programme.

Boldyn 4G Project
Hulkro has played a key role in the Boldyn 4G project, supporting multiple live sites with the design and installation of advanced cooling solutions for new equipment rooms. The scope included strategic optioneering of unit locations, detailed system design, and the application of extensive knowledge of complex electrical infrastructure to deliver reliable power to new installations.

Drawing on decades of experience working in constrained, operational environments, Hulkro’s engineers ensured each installation was optimised for safety, efficiency, and long-term performance. Close coordination with contractors and stakeholders helped minimise disruption while delivering robust, energy-efficient solutions that meet demanding operational standards.

Cleaner Air on the Underground: Air Filter Installation at Baker Street

Air quality in underground transport environments has been a growing concern for operators, staff, and passengers alike. Dust and particulate matter can build up quickly in enclosed spaces, and finding effective, practical solutions to improve conditions is a challenge facing many networks. Hulkro has been at the forefront of exploring innovative options, recently delivering the installation of air filters as part of a trial at Baker Street station.

Working closely with Transport for London, our role was to provide full installation support and technical assurance for the trial units. This began with a detailed survey of electrical supplies on site, followed by preparing the necessary space and load applications and producing electrical design reports to ensure safe integration with the station’s existing systems.

Once approvals were in place, our team coordinated the collection of the air scrubber units from Lillie Bridge Stores and arranged their safe delivery via Bond Street station, using step-free access routes and track trolleys to transport them directly to Baker Street. Installation required temporary connections to the local LV9 platform sockets, with flexing carefully routed through station freeze panels. In parallel, wiring from the LV transformer and vent shaft sockets at Green Park was surveyed to confirm options for future connections.

This trial installation represented more than just equipment placement — it was about ensuring the technology could be deployed safely and effectively in one of the busiest parts of the London Underground. By taking a meticulous approach to planning, assurance documentation, and logistics, Hulkro enabled the project to progress smoothly while minimising disruption.

The Baker Street trial is a key step in developing solutions to improve air quality across the Underground network. With further phases planned, the insights gained from this installation will help shape how future systems are rolled out, supporting healthier environments for both staff and passengers.

Harnessing Drone Technology for Safer, Smarter Roof Surveys

Traditional roof surveys have always been a challenge — high-level access often means scaffolding, MEWPs, or rope teams, which come with higher costs, complex logistics, and an increased safety risk. At Hulkro, we’ve been exploring smarter ways to deliver the same (or better) results with less disruption, and drone technology is leading the way.

Our recent rooftop drone surveys showcased just how effective this approach can be. Working with CAA-certified pilots, our team was able to capture high-resolution aerial imagery and condition data without the need for temporary works or extensive safety set-ups. By planning each flight in detail — including site-specific documentation and securing approvals from NATS — we ensured full compliance while keeping operations efficient.

Deploying a dedicated pilot and spotter team meant we could maintain the highest safety standards, while our drone equipment captured the fine details required for accurate condition assessments. The data gathered provided our client with a clear visual record of the roof’s condition, supporting informed decisions on maintenance and investment planning.

What stood out most was the time and cost savings. Instead of days of scaffold erection and dismantling, surveys were completed within hours — reducing both direct costs and disruption to the site. Just as importantly, by removing the need for people to work at height, the drone surveys delivered significant improvements in health and safety outcomes.

This approach is not just about efficiency today; it’s about shaping the future of asset inspection. As drone technology advances, its applications in infrastructure and construction will only expand — from façade inspections to drainage surveys, environmental monitoring, and beyond. At Hulkro, we see drone surveys as a core part of our toolkit, helping clients manage their assets more safely, quickly, and sustainably.

Successful Weekend Possession Works Completed for PLU Project

Hulkro Construction successfully completed our first weekend of possession works for the PLU project in early December, delivering civil and electrical works at Wood Green and Turnpike Lane stations on behalf of ADComms.

Our team operated across two shifts, totalling 24 hours, to achieve several key milestones at both stations. Thanks to precise planning and strong execution, all targets were met on schedule, allowing the work sites to be handed back to Transport for London (TfL) without delay.

Under the contract with ADComms, Hulkro carried out eight camera breakouts and installed mounting brackets, including multiple cable installations across the two stations.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to Hulkro for your outstanding efforts this weekend in managing the work on-site. Your dedication ensured that as many activities as possible were completed. I also appreciate the excellent communication throughout the weekend, which kept me and the project team updated on the progress at both stations. Additionally, I want to extend my thanks to the site team for their hard work during two long shifts to achieve what they did. Our internal reports highlight great photos and comments about how the work areas were organized during the tunnel ring breakouts, the establishment of noise exclusion zones, and the proper execution of confined space activities.”

– Noel Tyrell, Construction Manager (ADComms)
