Baker Street Air Purification Trials

Hulkro led the installation and trial of air purification units at Baker Street Station, improving air quality and informing future TfL deployments.

Project Overview

Hulkro partnered with Transport for London (TfL) to trial air purification units at Baker Street station, aiming to improve air quality within the Underground network. The project involved site surveys, electrical design, installation, and ongoing monitoring over a six-month period.

Our team carried out:

  • Electrical source identification and survey reports
  • Design and approvals for electrical load and space applications
  • Safe system of works and an isolation plan
  • Installation of temporary electrical supplies and NICEIC-certified testing
  • Delivery and installation of air purification units using TfL engineering vehicles
  • Regular filter changes and dust weight recordings to measure effectiveness

The trial successfully demonstrated a reduction in airborne dust, prompting TfL to develop a second prototype unit at another location, with Hulkro leading site investigations and installation for the next phase in 2025.

Throughout the project, Hulkro ensured strict quality control, including monthly inspections and a NICEIC yearly review. The use of TfL engineering vehicles reduced manual handling risks and removed the need for additional movement licenses.

This initiative is a key step in enhancing air quality across the London Underground, with further trials set to expand in the coming years.
